LPC

Hello! My name is Eric McClerren. I’m a licensed professional counselor (LPC) dedicated to supporting parents and caregivers of children with special needs. Growing up with a sister diagnosed with Angelman Syndrome, my journey in this field is deeply personal. I’m honored to bring both professional expertise and personal experience to help navigate the unique challenges of raising a child with special needs.

I hold an undergraduate degree in finance from the Freeman School of Business at Tulane University and a master’s degree in counseling from Covenant Theological Seminary. My career has been greatly influenced by working alongside Dr. Len Matheson, a renowned professor of neuroscience at the Washington University School of Medicine. This experience shaped my understanding of cognitive neuroscience and its practical applications in therapeutic settings.

Over the years, I’ve undergone specialized training with leading experts in the field, such as Dan Siegel at UCLA, Dan Allender at The Seattle School, and Brené Brown’s Daring Greatly and Rising Strong curriculums. These opportunities have enabled me to integrate the latest research in psychology and neuroscience into my practice, allowing me to offer targeted support for issues like depression, anxiety, stress management, and trauma, particularly as they affect parents of children with special needs.

I’m committed to helping parents develop coping strategies, reduce feelings of isolation, and improve overall mental well-being. Together, we will tackle the stress and emotional toll that often accompanies the journey of raising a child with special needs.

Outside of my professional life, I love swinging kettlebells, running the W&OD Trail, and exploring the D.C. area with with my wife and daughters.

If you are feeling overwhelmed, isolated, or just need a community that understands, I hope you’ll join us and find the connection you’re looking for.
