Accessibility

Everyone looking for help should be able to use this site, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard instead of a mouse, magnification, or other assistive technology.

We're working toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, a widely used standard for accessible websites. The site hasn't been independently tested against it yet, so we don't claim it meets that standard today. We plan to test it within three months of launch and fix what we find.

  • Text is set large enough to read comfortably, with clear contrast against its background.
  • Every form field has a visible label, and optional fields say so.
  • Headings, links, and buttons are real text, not pictures of text (apart from our logo), and images that carry meaning have text descriptions.
  • An accessibility menu, the icon in the corner of every page, lets you enlarge text, raise contrast, and adjust spacing.
  • Anything you’d do through a form, you can do by phone instead: 703-677-8243.

A few things come from outside services, like the spam check on our forms, and pages on other sites we link to. Some documents we send by email, like PDF forms, may not work well with every screen reader yet. If any of these gets in your way, tell us, and we'll help another way.

We're glad to provide any page or document in another format, like large print, or to go through it with you by phone.
